Mary Beth Shackelford

Mary Beth ShackelfordIf you could only keep 5 possessions, what would they be?

  • My phone-it’s full of pics and lots of great memories
  • My house that’s on the family farm
  • A book of quotes I received from Sugarboo and Co, “The Little Book of Wisdom for Exquisite Ladies”
  • My Pandora bracelet-each charm has a special meaning
  • My coffeepot- gotta have my caffeine!

Why did you choose your profession?

Agriculture has always been my passion.  Daddy said even as a three-year-old, I would run out of the house to find him so I could ride on the tractor or wonder into the milk barn to help milk.  I love being on the farm.  My greatest satisfaction is helping someone purchase a farm and get their start in agriculture so they can write their own story.

What is a skill you would like to learn and why?

I have two - crocheting, if I had the patience to learn crocheting, then I would have the patience to conquer anything out there and relaxing…I’m so used to going full speed all the time that I’m not used to enjoying down time.

Describe a perfect day.

My perfect day is waking up on a hot summer day on the beach with a good cup of coffee, walking the shoreline before the rest of the world is awake out.  It’s the best therapy.

What does KALP Class XII mean to you?

I love my little KALP family…KALP has been the best experience and I am grateful for the opportunities it has given me.  I have learned more than I ever thought possible-not only about KY agriculture, but on a much broader level, and especially about myself.  The best part is the relationships with my classmates and others it has created.
